On the anniversary of its NATO accession, Sweden announced its first direct participation in NATO’s Air Policing mission. From April to June 2025, Sweden will deploy up to eight JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets from Norrbotten Wing’s (F 21) Fighter Squadron to Poland. The deployment supports NATO’s continuous air defense operations and highlights Sweden’s growing integration into NATO structures.
Col. Jörgen Axelsson, Chief of Operations for the Swedish Air Force, stated: “This deployment enhances our interoperability and accelerates Sweden’s full integration into NATO’s Air Defence network.”
Sweden joins Italy, France, the Netherlands, and Spain in maintaining NATO’s 24/7 airspace security, reinforcing the collective readiness and security of the Alliance.
