Top Aces, a leader in advanced adversary air (ADAIR) and joint terminal attack controller (JTAC) training, has successfully completed its first training mission in Canada using upgraded A-4 Skyhawks. This marks the beginning of a new phase in Top Aces’ Contracted Airborne Training Services (CATS) contract, expanded by the Canadian government in December 2023.

Top Aces has been a trusted training partner for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) since 2005, known for innovative training solutions. The recent arrival of the first two A-4 Advanced Aggressor Fighters (AAF) in late May strengthens Top Aces’ fleet, which already includes Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jets and Bombardier Learjet 35s.

Each A-4 AAF comes equipped with the proprietary Advanced Aggressor Mission System (AAMS), featuring AESA radar and tactical datalink capabilities. These enhancements enable the A-4s to simulate advanced threat aircraft, providing realistic and high-value training for Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) CF-18 pilots.

The inaugural mission saw A-4 AAFs in action alongside Alpha Jets, delivering air-combat training for CF-18 pilots at 4-Wing Cold Lake, Alberta. This initiative not only enhances training for CF-18 aircrew but also allows the RCAF to allocate resources more effectively as they prepare for the transition to F-35 aircraft.
