Czech Republic Among EU Leaders in Implementing U-space – Powered by UpVision

The Czech Republic is positioning itself among the very first EU member states actively working on the deployment of U-space – Europe’s unified unmanned traffic management system. A key element of this ecosystem will be the Common Information Service (CIS), the central intelligence of U-space. The CIS technology is developed and delivered by UpVision, part of CSG Aerospace.

Following the successful completion of its first milestones, the project has now entered the implementation phase, with full operational deployment expected in summer 2026. However, CIS alone does not represent the full U-space. The system will only be complete once it is interconnected with certified U-space Service Providers (USSPs). This milestone is expected in 2027, making the Czech Republic one of Europe’s frontrunners in this transformative field.

CIS acts as a central hub enabling seamless data exchange on flight zones, authorizations, drone identification, and other operational parameters. By ensuring visibility and coordination of drones within U-space areas, it significantly enhances safety, predictability, and efficiency – even in urban environments.

“We are proud that a technology developed in the Czech Republic is helping to shape the future of Europe’s unmanned traffic management. Our CIS is modular, scalable, and fully compliant with European U-space standards,” said Štěpán Alexa, CEO of UpVision.

The integration of U-space and CIS is part of a broader digitalization and automation of European air traffic. It paves the way for innovative services such as medical drone deliveries, infrastructure inspections, and public safety monitoring. In the long term, drone delivery of goods – and eventually even passengers – represents one of the most promising frontiers.

Two other CSG Aerospace companies, CS-Soft and Atrak, also played an essential role in the CIS development and testing, including the use of AI agents to advance automation in air traffic management systems.

The launch of U-space in the Czech Republic is not just a step forward for aviation safety. It is a leap toward a smarter, faster, and safer future for drone operations across Europe.
