Reflex Aerospace Raises Record-Setting €50M to Accelerate Europe’s Sovereign Space Intelligence Push
Reflex Aerospace has closed a €50 million Series A round — the largest in Europe’s New Space sector to date — marking a decisive step in Europe’s race to secure sovereign space-based intelligence and communications capabilities. The German satellite manufacturer will use the capital to fast-track development and deployment of next-generation ISR and communications constellations, aimed at closing critical vulnerabilities in Europe’s strategic autonomy.
The round was led by Human Element alongside Alpine Space Ventures, Bayern Kapital, HTGF and other European investors. Funding will expand production capacity in Bavaria and accelerate delivery of optical, SAR, SDA and SIGINT satellite systems, with full capability demonstration targeted by 2027.
“Europe cannot afford to remain reliant on external actors for space-based intelligence,” said CEO Walter Ballheimer. “There is no time to waste.”
The investment comes amid unprecedented European defence-space mobilisation. Germany plans to spend €35 billion on space-related defence programmes through 2030, while the EU prepares to launch its European Space Shield Initiative next year. German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has warned satellite networks represent an “Achilles heel of modern societies.”
Reflex aims to address this vulnerability by offering rapid-manufacture, payload-centric satellites designed for ISR resilience and sovereign control across supply chain, manufacturing and mission operations. The company’s first remote-sensing spacecraft launched in January 2025; future systems will be built on its Praetora platform, engineered for high-tempo defence missions without reliance on megafactory infrastructure.
“Reflex is redefining satellite manufacturing for a sovereign Europe — flexible, fast, and defence-ready,” said Christian Sullivan, Managing Partner at Human Element.
As great-power competition intensifies and conflict drives demand for real-time geospatial intelligence, Reflex positions itself as a cornerstone of Europe’s strategic space architecture — delivering speed, independence and hardened ISR capacity to NATO-aligned customers.
