In cooperation with GE Aviation, the team of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering launched an experimental engine for the first time at its flying test facility, preparing for the first flight.

The team of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and GE Aviation reached another key milestone in the framework of joint collaborative research on 18 December 2020, when the first launch of an experimental engine mounted on the wing of the flying CTU testing laboratory was successfully completed.

The test flying test facility is now used for strategic cooperation between the Czech Technical University in Prague and GE Aviation. This cooperation began in 2016 with the signing of a collaborative agreement on joint research into a new methodology for designing a model for predictive maintenance of modern turboprop engines. The CTU has chosen the King Air 350 twin-engine aircraft for the flying test facility. The aircraft is now modified by Berlin Beechcraft Aviation at Berlin-Schönefeld Airport for experimental operation, with an original engine of the current generation operating on one wing, while the other one will mount a prototype new generation engine which the CTU team will perform experiments on.
