In a groundbreaking announcement on March 21, 2025, the U.S. Air Force officially awarded Boeing the contract to design, build, and deliver its Next-Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) fighter aircraft. The selection of Boeing for this critical program signals a pivotal moment in the development of 6th-generation fighter capabilities and highlights the company’s enduring legacy in combat aircraft production.

The NGAD Platform aims to establish a new global standard for air dominance by offering enhanced range, survivability, lethality, and adaptability. As the central node in the NGAD Family of Systems, it is intended to revolutionize air combat by integrating cutting-edge technologies to address the evolving threats of modern warfare.

Steve Parker, interim president and CEO of Boeing Defense, Space & Security, commented on the award, stating, “We recognize the importance of designing, building and delivering a 6th-generation fighter capability for the United States Air Force. In preparation for this mission, we made the most significant investment in the history of our defense business, and we are ready to provide the most advanced and innovative NGAD aircraft needed to support the mission.”

Boeing’s deep-rooted expertise in combat aircraft manufacturing is undeniable. The company’s portfolio includes legendary platforms such as the P-51 Mustang, F-4 Phantom, F-15 Eagle, F/A-18 Hornet, and EA-18G Growler. With this selection, Boeing aims to continue its legacy of innovation, cementing its role as a global leader in air dominance.

While technical and programmatic details of the NGAD Platform remain classified under United States national security and export laws, the announcement underscores Boeing’s ongoing commitment to advancing air superiority technologies. The NGAD fighter will undoubtedly shape the future of aerial combat and contribute significantly to the United States’ strategic defense capabilities.

Boeing continues to be a leading global aerospace company, providing defense products and space systems to customers in over 150 countries. Its vast workforce and supplier base remain a cornerstone of its efforts to drive innovation, economic growth, and technological excellence.
