A game-changer in the turboprop segment has just arrived. Avio Aero announced today that the Catalyst engine has officially received certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), marking a major milestone for European aerospace innovation.

The certification under FAR (Federal Aviation Regulation) Part 33 involved rigorous testing of more than 23 engines and 190 components, proving the Catalyst’s durability, efficiency, and next-generation performance.

Born in Europe, Built for the Future

The Catalyst is not just another turboprop engine—it’s the first fully European-developed engine of its kind in decades. Developed and produced at GE Aerospace and Avio Aero facilities in Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany, the Catalyst is designed to push the boundaries of efficiency and power.

“Certification of the Catalyst engine is a proud moment for our team and a major leap forward for European aerospace. With production now ready to scale, we are eager to deliver this revolutionary engine to our customers,” said Riccardo Procacci, CEO of Avio Aero.

Engineered for Excellence

What sets the Catalyst apart?

  • Industry-leading 16:1 overall pressure ratio – the highest in its class

  • Up to 18% lower fuel consumption than competitors

  • 10% higher cruise power output

  • Advanced cooling technologies for optimized performance

  • 3D-printed components for weight reduction and efficiency gains

With over 8,000 hours of ground and flight testing, the Catalyst has demonstrated its ability to exceed expectations under extreme conditions.

“Catalyst went through one of the most stringent certification processes in the industry, and we are extremely pleased with its performance. Now, we shift focus to supporting Textron Aviation in completing certification of the Beechcraft Denali and bringing it to market,” added Paul Corkery, Head of Catalyst Product Line at Avio Aero.

Defining the Future of Turboprop Aviation

The Catalyst is not just an engine—it’s a statement of technological leadership, defining new benchmarks for efficiency, sustainability, and performance. With its cutting-edge variable stator vanes and additive manufacturing, it represents the future of European aviation, setting new global standards.

Now certified, the Catalyst is poised to redefine the skies. The question is: who will take the lead in harnessing its potential?
