Pioneering aerospace innovation and strengthening European defence from the skies of Bavaria

Munich / Tussenhausen, 4 June 2025 – In a bold move to transform European air combat capabilities, Helsing – Europe’s leading defence AI company – has signed an agreement to acquire the Bavarian aircraft manufacturer Grob Aircraft SE. The acquisition marks the next chapter in an already successful partnership between the two companies and brings together Grob’s decades-long aircraft expertise with Helsing’s cutting-edge AI and electronic warfare solutions.

This strategic alliance sets the stage for the development of next-generation air combat systems, combining lightweight composite airframes and integrated AI for real-time threat response.

Founded in Bavaria and home to around 275 employees, Grob Aircraft is a globally recognized provider of military and civil training aircraft. With its own airfield, a strong delivery pipeline, and deep composite manufacturing know-how, Grob’s platforms are uniquely suited to host Helsing’s advanced defence software – including Cirra, its AI-driven electronic warfare suite.

The two companies have already proven the power of this synergy: Grob platforms served as testbeds for Cirra’s development. The next step? A joint push to integrate hardware, software, and AI into scalable, mission-ready defence solutions for the future battlespace.

“We are deepening a trusted partnership with Grob Aircraft,” said Dr. Gundbert Scherf, Co-CEO and co-founder of Helsing. “This acquisition unites two companies with shared values, complementary strengths, and a clear mission: to reinforce Europe’s technological and industrial sovereignty. Together, we’re helping establish Bavaria as a European hub for aerospace and defence innovation.”

André Hiebeler, Managing Partner of Grob Aircraft, added: “Helsing’s vision and deep tech expertise are a perfect match for our DNA. With this partnership, we’re redefining what innovation means in the aerospace and defence sector.”

Helsing’s planned investments will create new jobs in Bavaria and support the Bavarian government’s ambition to foster cutting-edge capabilities in aerospace and AI.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals. Terms remain confidential.
