United Kingdom and Türkiye sign major Typhoon aircraft agreement

The UK and the Republic of Türkiye have finalised a £5.4 billion agreement for 20 Typhoon aircraft, marking Türkiye’s entry into the international Typhoon community. The United Kingdom has agreed a landmark defence contract with the Republic of Türkiye for the purchase of 20 Typhoon aircraft and an associated weapons and integration package, valued at approximately £5.4 billion.

The deal sustains more than 20,000 highly skilled jobs across the UK supply chain and extends Typhoon production into the 2030s. BAE Systems will lead manufacturing and final assembly at its Lancashire facilities, with MBDA providing the weapons package, including the Meteor beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile.

Türkiye becomes the tenth nation to operate the Typhoon, joining a community of air forces spanning Europe and the Middle East. The agreement underscores the aircraft’s enduring operational relevance and the strengthening of ties between the UK and Türkiye — key NATO allies committed to shared security and defence innovation.

Charles Woodburn, Chief Executive of BAE Systems, described the agreement as “an export success story that highlights how investment in defence fuels economic growth, preserves sovereign skills and reinforces the UK’s position as a trusted defence partner.”

With Typhoon generating over £1.6 billion annually for the UK economy and contributing £1.4 billion in exports, the programme continues to demonstrate the value of long-term industrial partnerships that deliver both capability and prosperity.
