Immersive Training in Virtual Reality for Military Tactical Operations to be Unveiled by Vrgineers at the International IDET Exhibition

Date 22.5.2023

Vrgineers, a successful Czech-American company, in collaboration with their partner e.sigma, is introducing extensive virtual reality training capabilities for tactical training of air armed forces. The companies are combining the latest version of the Portable Trainer portable simulator with the e.TACCS modular command and control platform. This innovative combination will be showcased for the first time at this year’s International Defence and Security Technologies Exhibition (IDET) in Brno.

Vrgineers, known for delivering the Portable Trainer flight simulator worldwide, continually pushes the boundaries of simulator development to meet the high demands of tactical military operations training, particularly for professional pilots, including those flying fifth-generation aircraft. The simulator accommodates training for pilots of F-15, F-16, and F-35 fighter jets and is even suitable for reconfiguring helicopters such as the Viper or Venom, which the Czech Air Force is expected to receive this year. The ability to adapt and reconfigure the simulator to the required aircraft type is the main advantage of the Portable Trainer system, originally developed based on the requirements of the United States Marine Corps. The simulator is characterized by its portability, lightweight design, and extreme durability. Last year, Vrgineers modified it for training pilots of Su-25 “Frogfoot” and Su-27 “Flanker” fighter jets, which they provided in collaboration with OMNIPOL to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

“We are excited to present the integration of Vrgineers’ Portable Trainer for pilot training with the e.TACCS software from our partner company, e.sigma, at IDET. This integration enables pilots and instructors to configure missions and scenarios involving hundreds of aircraft controlled by pilots or artificial intelligence. We believe this integration is another important step toward creating a comprehensive synthetic training environment,” says Marek Polčák, CEO of Vrgineers.

In addition to training for entire crews and teams, the e.TACCS command and control system is also suitable for individual training. It allows for the simulation of all air command and control operations, from aerial refueling to complex tactical operations. The built-in artificial intelligence can analyze training data and create an optimal environment for team-focused training. The software also features configurable speech recognition for simulation control.

The key components of the Portable Trainer simulator and the e.TACCS software are complemented by Vrgineers’ state-of-the-art XTAL 3 virtual reality headset. The headset boasts a high combined 8K resolution and an immersive field of view of up to 180 degrees, providing a highly realistic simulation experience. It includes an eye-tracking system that allows for post-training evaluation and analysis of a pilot’s focus and behavior during training scenarios.

“Our professional-grade virtual and mixed reality headsets, combined with our simulator portfolio, offer customers the best training solutions for military forces in the market. Vrgineers has been successfully expanding into foreign markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and South Africa,” adds Marek Polčák.
